Special to the Gazette
Nearly 200 volunteers will gather this May to read “The Autobiography of Malcolm X” in its entirety. The two-day marathon event honors the 101st anniversary of the civil rights leader’s birth and seeks to keep his legacy of social justice alive.
The event will be held at the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building, 2300 Washington St, Roxbury, MA 02119. Admission is free, and the public is encouraged to attend for any part of the program.
Event Schedule:
• Saturday, May 16, 2026: 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
• Sunday, May 17, 2026: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Malcolm X’s courage in speaking for the disempowered and his refusal to accept economic inequities continue to inspire social justice movements today. By reading his autobiography as a group, organizers aim to channel individual hopes into a powerful collective voice.
The event is organized by a committee of local creators and entrepreneurs, led by founder Rosalyn Elder. Other committee members include Carolyn Ingles, Parmie Polk, Mark Schafer, and Talia Whyte.
