The Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) bought the 45-unit apartment building at 660 Huntington Ave. in late August with the aim of housing faculty there.

The building currently has one commercial unit, a copy shop, and houses Mission Hill residents, young professionals and graduate students. According to a press release, MCPHS intends to maintain the same mix of occupants, as well as offer available units to college faculty and staff.

“We look at this as another opportunity to strengthen our ties with our neighbors,” MCPHS President Charles Monahan Jr. said in the press release. “We intend to maintain this building with the same high standards as our other facilities.”

“The property will be maintained as a residential property,” said Michael Ratty, a MCPHS spokesperson. “All the tenants have been notified of the sale. When apartments do become available, they will be offered to MCPHS faculty who travel to the campus from as far away as Fall River and Springfield, as well as other staff and professionals who work in the LMA.

“No one is being asked to leave,” Ratty added.

MCPHS also plans to offer a number of units to low- and moderate-income Mission Hill residents.

The college moved quickly to complete the purchase because of expressed interest in the property by other institutions in the Longwood Medical Area, the release stated.

“As a Mission Hill resident myself, I ensure that the college strives every day to be a good neighbor,” Monahan said in the release.
