Markey wins U.S. Senate seat

Democratic U.S. Rep. Ed Markey (5th District) beat Republican Gabriel Gomez on June 25 to claim the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by John Kerry. Third-party candidate Richard Heos, who represents the Twelve Visions Party, came in a distant third.

Markey garnered about 76 percent of votes in the city, according to City results. Gomez collected around 23 percent of votes in the city, while Heos took in less than 1 percent.
