Mayor reorganizes his cabinet

Mayor Martin Walsh released a plan last month for a reorganization of the cabinets under his leadership, according to a press release.

The reorganization includes elevating arts and culture to a cabinet-level position, a pledge Walsh had made during the mayoral race.

“Our role as a government is to improve people’s lives, and the purpose of this reorganization is to better deliver services to the people of Boston,” said Walsh, according the press release.

The new structure will have12 cabinets: arts and culture; chief of staff; economic development; education; environment, energy and open space; finance and budget; health and human services; housing and neighborhood development; information and technology; operations and administration; public safety; and streets, transportation and sanitation.
