Renovated playground to open in spring

The Gibbons Playground, which is located at Delle Avenue and Sewall Street and is undergoing a $311,000 renovation, will reopen sometime in the spring, according to Boston Parks and Recreation Commissioner Antonia Pollak.

The Boston Parks and Recreation Department (BPRD) held a series of meetings early last year for recommendations for the renovation of the park, which began last fall.

“We are still in construction and have halted work until the weather and ground thaws a bit,” said Pollak in an email to the Gazette.

She said that the Parks Department is replacing the upper plaza and spray features with new paving and fountain, and installing an accessible ramp, new play equipment and rubber safety surfacing. Pollak said the department is also refurbishing the existing gateway and doing some other fence work and planting.

“The park will reopen in the spring once construction is complete,” said Pollak.
