City election campaigns begin

Mission Hill City Councilor Josh Zakim is planning to run for reelection this fall, according to spokesperson Kyndal Henicke.

Zakim is currently in the second year of his first two-year term. He took over for former City Councilor Mike Ross, who moved to East Boston from Mission Hill after an unsuccessful mayoral campaign.

Meanwhile, Dorchester resident and Boston Public Schools teacher Annissa Essaibi George is throwing her hat in the ring for a second time, announcing last month that she will be running for an At-Large City Council seat, according to a press release.

She finished fifth in 2013, behind Stephen Murphy. The top four receive a seat on the City Council.

“As a small business owner, teacher and mom, I will bring a unique perspective to the Boston City Council,” said George at the Banshee Pub in Dorchester, according to the press release. “I am deeply invested in our schools, because I am in the classroom working with our kids every day, and because I’m raising four young boys in the city.”
