Editorial: Marathon winners

With unfortunate timing, it appears we will be hearing once again about the accused Boston Marathon terrorist bomber around the time of the race, as his trial wraps up near this year’s April 20 marathon date. One thing for locals to remember is that he is alive to stand trial thanks to the world-class care he received at the LMA’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Many survivors as well are alive and thriving today because of the LMA’s outstanding institutions.

While talk will turn toward a criminal court case, we prefer to focus on the hundreds of people—including “Orange Is the New Black” star Uzo Aduba—running to raise funds for basic cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. You can learn more about that effort and how to support it at RunDFMC.org. Many other organizations are holding fundraiser marathon runs as well, including Brigham and Women’s Hospital, which has one fund created by a bombing survivor.
