Northeastern University has been added to the list of venues for the proposed Boston 2024 Summer Olympics in the second draft of the bid.
Olympic weightlifting would be staged at Northeastern’s Matthews Arena, according to the latest Boston 2024 bid document released last month. The arena is on the other side of the campus from Mission Hill.
Northeastern previously was proposed only to house visiting journalists in its dorms.
The expanded inclusion of Northeastern in the Olympic bid follows the school’s athletics director, Peter Roby, being named to the Boston 2024 bid committee.
The bid documents propose Boston 2024 spending roughly $8 million to stage the weightlifting events within the existing arena.
