Youth hockey tournament starts Dec. 20

Northeastern University’s Matthews Arena will be hosting games for the 2015 Mayor’s Cup Hockey Tournament, which kicks off on Dec. 20, according to a press release.

The citywide tournament, hosted by Boston Parks and Recreation Department with support from The Boston Bruins and P&G Gillette, will span throughout an entire week at local rinks throughout Boston.

Other participating rinks include Bajko Rink in Hyde Park, Devine Rink in Dorchester, Emmons Horrigan Rink in Charlestown, Murphy Rink in South Boston, Porazzo Rink in East Boston, Roche Rink in West Roxbury, Bright Hockey Arena at Harvard University, Conte Forum at Boston College, and Walter Brown Arena at Boston University.

“Through sports like hockey, young people are given a chance to build lifelong skills, such as teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership,” said Mayor Martin Walsh, according to the press release. “I extend my gratitude to the Boston Bruins Foundation and P&G Gillette for bringing these teams together for weeks of exciting action and the opportunity to meet and play with youth from throughout the city.”

The girls’ finals will be held on Dec. 30 at Matthews Arena and the boys’ finals are scheduled for Jan. 17 at Conte Forum. For a full game schedule, visit bit.ly/1PV5jgk.
