No bail in December shooting death of 17 year old

Tsunami Oritz was arraigned on murder charges on Feb. 29 for the fatal shooting of 17-year-old D’Andre King-Settles and was ordered held without bail, according to a Suffolk County District Attorney’s (DA) Office press release.

King-Settles was murdered on Dec. 18 after leaving a building on Annunciation Road with two friends, according to Assistant DA Catherine Ham. Ham said that gun shots were heard behind them, and King-Settles was hit and suffered a fatal injury. A second victim, age 19 at the time, was grazed by a bullet, but not seriously injured.

Ortiz, 17, was charged with murder and two counts of armed assault with intent to murder for shots fired at two surviving victims, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and firearm offenses.

Evidence for the charges are from a surveillance camera, the footage of which was sufficient quality to identify Ortiz, and cell tower data linked to his cell phone was consistent to his presence in the area at the time of the shooting.

The investigation into the murder of King-Settles remains active, according to police and prosecutors. Anyone with additional information on the incident is asked to contact the Boston Police Homicide Unit at 617-343-4470.

Ortiz is represented by attorney John Galvin and will return to court on March 28. Galvin could not be reached for comment.
