Lucia Rocha Laboy was crowned the “mother of the year” at the annual Mother’s Day Celebration at Mission Church on May 19.

Rocha Laboy, a resident of the Mission Main housing development, is well-known as a “babysitter for the community,” said Maria Sánchez, whose Social Hispanic Committee of Mission Church holds the annual event. Rocha Laboy was honored with proclamations from Mayor Thomas Menino and state Rep. Jeffrey Sánchez, son of Maria. The event commemorates an “exemplary mother” in the community.

Rocha Laboy is mother to two children, Nestor Rocha and Maranjely Rocha-Rodriguez, and has five grandchildren.
