A ban on smoking anywhere inside Boston Housing Authority (BHA) buildings—including tenants’ apartments—goes into effect on Sept. 30.
“The City of Boston is proud to be at the forefront of having smoke-free living in our public housing,” said Mayor Thomas Menino in a press statement. “All our residents deserve a safe, healthy environment to live and raise their families in.”
The policy bans smoking indoors as well as outdoors within posted distances of the buildings. The policy applies to residents no matter whether they signed a lease agreement about it.
