At-Large City Councilor Felix Arroyo filed a hearing order last month to examine how best to provide summer jobs to the city’s youths, according to a press release.
“The mayor and my colleagues have all shown a strong commitment to youths by investing in summer jobs for young people,” said Arroyo, according to the press release. “However, each year, it becomes more and more difficult to find funding for all the young people who want to work.”
Arroyo, who chairs the Council’s Committee on Labor, Youth Affairs and Health, has made youth summer jobs a top priority during his time as a City Councilor. About 10,000 youths in the city had summer jobs last summer, but that still left 4,000 youths who applied without one, according to the press release.
