Bomb suspect eludes dragnet; lockdown lifted

The surviving Boston Marathon bombing suspect, Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge, has eluded a massive search that shut down Boston today, Gov. Deval Patrick and other officials announced this evening.

The so-called lockdown of the city has been lifted and the MBTA public transit service is going back into normal service.

Tsarnaev remains at large and is considered heavily armed and extremely dangerous. He is suspected in the April 15 marathon bombing that killed three people, and he is linked to the killing of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer and wounded of a Transit Police officer last night.

A second suspect, identified as his brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, died of injuries following a police shootout last night.

Anyone with tips about Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s location should contact the FBI at 1-800-225-5324 or bostonmarathontips.fbi.gov. Officials also are urging people to remain alert and vigilant to any suspicious people or items and report them immediately to 911.
