LMA—Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) and Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) in the Longwood Medical Area are among the Boston hospitals in lockdown right now, according to hospital officials.
In nearby Jamaica Plain, Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital is also in lockdown, while the BCH-run Martha Eliot Health Center is closed, according to officials.
“Boston Children’s has begun notifying patients with scheduled appointments,” said BCH spokesperson Rob Graham in an email to the Gazette. “The hospital is fully staffed and care for patients at Longwood remains uninterrupted and emergent care remains open. The designation is an effort to help keep the roads clear as requested by federal, state and city authorities.”

“Please know that Brigham and Women’s Hospital and our ambulatory clinics are caring for patients and are secure,” said BWH spokesperson Tom Langford in an email to the Gazette. He said that patients with appointments and employees and visitors with IDs will be allowed into BWH facilities, but everyone is encouraged to stay home if possible per Gov. Deval Patrick’s suggestion for public safety. Clinic patients with questions about their appointment should contact their doctors, he said.
There is a massive manhunt currently underway for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, one of two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings. A second suspect, identified by family members in TV news interviews as Dzhokhar’s 26-year-old brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was killed in a confrontation with police last night.
