Updated: Traffic detours for Muddy River project coming next week

Construction activities for the Army Corp. of Engineers Muddy River project will involve a change in traffic patterns starting the evening of Mon., Sept. 23. Brookline Avenue will change into a one-way street inbound between the Riverway Connector and Park Drive for about six months.

The change was originally announced as starting Sept. 16, but was pushed back by delays in installing temporary street lighting, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which is carrying out the project.

Vehicles from Boylston Street and Brookline Avenue traveling outbound will need to turn right onto Park Drive and travel around the old Sears Parking lot to continue outbound on Brookline Avenue. There will be message boards on site to assist in understanding the detour.

A new walkway has also been constructed around the former Sears parking lot for pedestrian travel through the project area. These changes are being made so that the installation of a culvert under Brookline Avenue can continue.
