Councilor gets district number tattooed on arm

City Councillor Matt O’Malley decided to mark his dedication to District 6 permanently with a bicep tattoo of the number 6.

“I wanted to commemorate the fact that I live in and represent the best place on Earth,” said O’Malley, whose District 6 includes part of the Back of the Hill. “I’ve gotten a lot of good feedback on it.”

If he’s ever elected to mayor, he can easily expand it to “617,” a Boston telephone area code, he said.

O’Malley tweeted a picture of himself flexing his arm and showing off the tattoo after visiting Fat Ram’s Pumpkin Tattoo in Jamaica Plain on Nov. 29.

O’Malley already had another tattoo: a Chinese character, he said, which he got in college. The character means “hope and faith.”

“At least, I hope it does. I haven’t had it verified,” he said.
