Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT) will be able to house 97 percent of its students seeking housing in Boston once a new dormitory at 525 Huntington is completed.
The 305 beds, which are expected to be open by the fall, were decided based on student housing projects informed by the City’s required yearly student census, WIT spokesperson Jamie Kelly told the Gazette.
“We’ve been tracking the number of students living independently in Boston,” he said. “We wanted to provide a facility that would attract students and to keep them on campus.”
The new dorm will include amenities not available in any other WIT housing, including dishwashers and clothes washer and dryers.
“We wanted to provide a higher level of facility and at the same time make sure that we’re addressing students living in Boston, in surrounding neighborhoods” like Mission Hill, he said.
