Author to discuss U.S. health care costs

National Magazine Award-winning journalist Steven Brill will speak about his new book, “America’s Bitter Pill,” at Northeastern University School of Law on Jan. 21.

The book addresses the political forces that keep America’s health care costs the world’s highest, despite such recent reforms as the Affordable Care Act. It is based partly on Brill’s own experience receiving treatment for a serious illness.

In the 1990s, Brill published the influential media magazine “Brill’s Content.” Today, he teaches journalism at Yale University. He is the author of Time Magazine’s March 4, 2013, special report “Bitter Pill: Why Medical Bills Are Killing Us,” for which he won the 2014 National Magazine Award for Public Service.

Brill will speak from noon to 1:30 p.m. at NU’s Dockser Hall, 65 Forsyth St. The event is free and open to the public. RSVPs are requested at [email protected].
