MHMS to mark 25th anniversary with free celebration

     Mission Hill Main Streets is proud to mark its 25th Anniversary this year with a free community celebration for Mission Hill residents and businesses. MHMS will commemorate this milestone on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022 from 12:00pm – 4:00pm at the Tobin Community Center and The Yard. The event will take place rain or shine. 

     “Mission Hill Main Streets serves as a crucial anchor for our residents, small businesses, and community organizations in the neighborhood,” said Mayor Michelle Wu. “This year we celebrate 25 years of exemplary leadership from Mission Hill Main Streets as they have worked to revitalize their local business district and build community.      The 25th Anniversary community celebration will feature several activity areas. Mission Church will serve as a meeting point for historic tours of the church and the neighborhood. Parker Hill Library will host a lecture and book signing event with “Mission Hill Through Time” author, Anthony Sammarco. The Yard will host a speaking program, a walk through time with historic photos of Mission Hill then and now, a cake cutting ceremony, photo op, and performances by guitarist, Matt Byrnes and jazz group, Ilya Blazh Trio. The speaking program will feature remarks an awards presentation from Mayor Michelle Wu, followed by remarks from past executive directors of MHMS, president and CEO of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Robert Higgins, M.D., MSHA. Guests will also enjoy “A Taste of Mission Hill” on either side of the Yard, featuring prepared food samples from Mission Hill restaurants. 

     The Tobin Center parking lot will also host activities for all ages to enjoy, including face-painting, pony rides, selfies with local law enforcement, and ice cream from the Boston Police Department ice cream truck. Guests will also have the opportunity to cheer on our young local athletes at back-to-back youth basketball games in the Tobin Center from 1:30 – 2:30pm and 2:30 – 3:30pm. 

     The full schedule for the community celebration is as follows: 

12:00pm — Doors open

12:15pm  – 1:15pm — Opening speaking program, awards presentation, and cake cutting ceremony

1:15pm  – 4:00pm — Community fun and activities

     • A Taste of Mission Hill

     • Historic walking and Mission Church tours

     • Mobile photo booth

     • Face painting, pony rides, super hero characters, photo-ops with cops, snacks

     • Music performances on the stage
