Community officer issues monthly crime report for Mission Hill

Information about a string of package and bicycle thefts in the neighborhood, along with complaints about college parties, were the highlights of last week’s Mission Hill Crime Committee meeting.

Boston Police Officer Michael O’Rourke, the community service officer for Mission Hill, reported on the major crimes and incidents that took place over the past month.

On August 29, there was a report of motor vehicle vandalism on Worthington Street with the theft of aftermarket accessories from the vehicle.

A call came in on Sept. 1 at 756 Huntington Ave. for a woman who was threatening to throw a glass bottle at people walking by, according to O’Rourke. He said police called EMS to evaluate the woman and she was transported to the hospital.

Also on Sept. 1, there was a call for a stolen motor vehicle on Terrace Street. The car was located several days later in another part of Boston.

There was a call on Sept. 4 on Hillside Avenue for a person threatening to commit suicide. EMS arrived and transported that person to the hospital for an evaluation.

There were several package and bicycle thefts reported on Tremont Street from Sept. 5 through Sept. 7, O’Rourke said.

“We generally know who the individual is; criminal charges have been taken out against this individual,” O’Rourke said. “They are a habitual offender, they have done numerous years in prison for all these same sorts of crimes and he is back out again, so we do have an uptick in package thefts and bikes in the general area.”

There was a road rage incident near 1584 Tremont St. on Sept. 7; and on Sept. 10, there was a report of someone who had their phone stolen from Crispy Dough at 1514 Tremont.

On Sept. 15, O’Rourke said there was an argument at 1575 Tremont St. between a security guard and an unknown man who was trying to make his way into the building.

“The police arrived and they were able to escort that individual out,” said O’Rourke.

On Sept. 16, there was a reported fight between a tow truck driver and the owner of a car on Wigglesworth Street.

“I believe it started off as a verbal, and one of the individuals struck the other one; that is being investigated by the detectives,” said O’Rourke.

There were reports of a possible renewable energy door-to-door salesperson scam on Sept. 19 on Tremont Street. On Sept. 20, there were reports of a man looking into windows of a residence on Parker Street.

Another stolen package was reported on Dell Avenue on Sept. 21. O’Rourke said the suspect was caught on camera and police are attempting to identify the individual.

O’Rourke was asked about incidents related to college house parties in Mission Hill with colleges recently welcoming back students. He noted that the BPD has extra details in the neighborhood during the fall keeping an eye on issuing criminal complaints at potentially disorderly houses.

The disturbances are usually greatest in September and early October, and then typically start to lessen in mid-October, O’Rourke said.
