Sánchez picks up Mission Park in redistricting

State Rep. Jeffrey Sánchez, who grew up in Mission Hill, will represent a little more of the neighborhood if he wins reelection next year, when his 15th Suffolk District is redrawn to include the Mission Park housing development.

“It fits right in with this district. It always did,” Sánchez said of the change. Mission Park’s Ward 10, Precinct 4—which covers a large part of the area between the Longwood Medical Area and the Riverway—was formerly part of the 15th Suffolk, but was given to State Rep. Gloria Fox’s 7th Suffolk District in the last round of redistricting a decade ago.

Mission Hill will continue to be in the 2nd Suffolk state Senate district, currently held by state Sen. Sonia Chang- Díaz, under this year’s state redistricting plan, which was signed into law by Gov. Deval Patrick earlier this month.

If he is re-elected, U.S. Congressman Michael Capuano would continue to represent the Hill under a proposed federal Congressional redistricting plan that the state legislature plans to vote on next week. Under that plan, Capuano’s district number would change from the 8th to the 7th Congressional District.

The new districts will take effect starting in the 2012 election cycle
