A volunteer effort called Mission: The Hill will canvass Mission Hill’s new young residents on Sept. 1, student move-in day, to see if they want to register to vote at their new addresses.
The effort is the brainchild of Dorothy Scheeline, a Jamaica Plain resident who formerly lived in Mission Hill while attending Northeastern University. She has a background in voter registration campaigns for such organizations as MassVOTE.
“Many of the young people [who] live in Mission Hill are not registered to vote, and Sept. 1 is the perfect day for us to kick off because many students and young people will be moving in that day,” Scheeline said in an email to the Gazette.
Mission: The Hill is a volunteer information effort, not a nonprofit or political organization. It aims to get as many people registered as possible for the Nov. 6 general election, which will include the U.S. presidential race.
The group will canvass the neighborhood again on Sept. 15, 25 and 29 and Oct. 6 and 13.
