South Ender runs for City Council

Michelle Wu, a South End attorney, this week announced her campaign for an at-large Boston City Council seat in next year’s election.

“In Boston, we can lead globally by innovating locally,” Wu said in a press statement. “Innovation shouldn’t be associated solely with the Seaport, but should also define our neighborhood schools, community health centers and Main Street districts.”

The incumbent at-large councilors are Felix Arroyo, John Connolly, Steve Murphy and Ayanna Pressley.

Wu, a 27-year-old graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School was a full-time campaign staffer for U.S. Senator-elect Elizabeth Warren, directing statewide outreach to communities of color.

She previously worked as a law school intern at Boston City Hall, where she created a guide to the City’s restaurant permitting process and was involved in getting food trucks on City Hall Plaza.

As a volunteer, she helped low-income business owners at the WilmerHale Legal Services Center and on immigration cases involving survivors of domestic violence at Boston Medical Center’s Medical-Legal Partnership. She is involved with Roxbury’s RoxVote coalition and serves on the boards of the Kwong Kow Chinese School in Chinatown and the South End’s Puerto Rican Veterans Monument Square Association.

Wu’s sister Victoria is a student at Boston Latin School in the Longwood Medical and Academic Area.
