Officials indicate bombing ‘Suspect 1’ died at BIDMC

LMA—One suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing died while being treated at Beth Israel Deaconness Medical Center (BIDMC) in the Longwood Medical Area, hospital officials indicated at a televised press conference this morning.

They would not identify the dead patient or confirm that he was one of the bombing suspects, but they said he arrived under heavy police guard and gave no other explanation for why he was there or why they held a press conference. Police officials previously said that the so-called “Suspect 1” has died after a shootout.

The patient was in “traumatic arrest” when he arrived around 1:20 a.m., hospital officials said. He was pronounced dead at 1:35 a.m. One of the doctors who treated him said he lives in Watertown, where the fatal shootout took place.

“Suspect 2” in the bombings, also wanted in a police killing and other crimes overnight, is still at large.
